A school in Kenyan town of Thika has been closed by officials. It follows reports of sexual abuse and religious cult practices.

72 students from the Caritas Mariana Secondary School run by a Nigerian priest have now been sent home.

The school is also reportedly involved in allegations of drug abuse and the employment of unregistered teachers.

On Wednesday when the school was closed the Thika Sub-County Director of Education Ronald Mbogo said the allegations against the School are ” very serious”.

Education ministry officials are now initiating a transfer procedure for the students to neighbouring schools.

Citizen Digital, a local media outlet reports that the manager of the school Fr. Bertrand Maria Nwachukwu is a controversial figure in Kenya.

Nwachukwu, who is in charge of the Caritas Mariana mission also had police raiding a primary school his outfit runs in 2016.

Kiambu County officials raided his primary school and a children’s home after a pupil died. There were separate claims of sexual molestation at the school as well.
