The President of Liberia George Weah has honoured his former coach Arsène Wenger with the country’s highest honour.
Wenger who is former manager of Arsenal football club was decorated with Liberia’s top honour at a ceremony in the capital, Monrovia.
Mr. Wenger was inducted into Liberia’s Order of Distinction. He has now been given the title of Knight Grand Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption.
The former Arsenal manager is among several other prominent personalities President Weah honoured on Friday. Another French coach Claude Le Roy was decorated with state honours.
Wenger coached Mr Weah in 1998 after bringing him to Monaco. President Weah has said in the past that Wenger helped to shape his footballing career.
George Weah was sworn in as president of Liberia this year taking over from the continent’s first democratically elected female president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

That was the first time in over 70 years that Liberia witnessed a peaceful transfer of power from one government to the other after a peaceful electoral process.
Mr. Weah, is the only African footballer to have won both Fifa World Player of the Year and the Ballon D’Or.
He played for top-flight European football clubs like Paris St-Germain (PSG), AC Milan, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Not all Liberians support the idea to honour Mr. Wenger, but some were excited about the move.
