Two al-Shabaab fighters have been killed in an air strike carried out by the United States forces in Somalia.
The air strike was carried out in coordination with Somalia’s army, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.
The U.S. Africa Command statement said the air strike occurred approximately 46 kilometres northeast of Kismayo, in southern Somalia.
“We currently assess no civilians were injured or killed in this air strike”, the statement said.
The United States military has in the past carried out similar strikes against al-Shabaab extremists in Somalia.
In February a drone strike killed three “terrorists.” Most of the air strikes carried out by the US army in the horn of Africa are against al-Shabaab militants.
The US carried out more than 30 drone strikes in 2017 in Somalia.
This was done after President Donald Trump approved expanded military efforts against the al-Shabaab militant group.
