Boko Haram militants on Sunday killed at least 19 people in an attack on a village in northeast Nigeria.

Survivors of the attack say the militants attacked the village of Mailari in the Guzamala region of Borno state Sunday morning.

A survivor, Abatcha Umar was quoted by Reuters to have said that he counted 19 people killed. An aid worker at a camp that received survivors, however put the death toll at 63.

Hundreds of people from villages in the area are reported to have fled to the camp in Monguno.

A Militia leader Babakura Kolo told AFP that “the Boko Haram gunmen seized six men and slaughtered them.”

“The bodies of the six victims were found this morning (Sunday) when residents returned to the burned village,” Babakura Kolo said.

Sunday’s attack adds to series of ongoing attacks on civilians in parts of Nigeria by militants.
