Zimbabwe’s main opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa is alleging that there are plots by the government to kill him.
He made the claim in an interview with Sunday Times blaming it on his attempt to challenge the outcome of last week’s election results.
Chamisa and his MDC party are planning to file a motion in court over the election results claiming the poll was rigged in favour of declared winner, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“These guys are trained to kill and have been tracking me, doing all sorts of things,” Chamisa told Sunday Times.
Some 23 people from the opposition are currently facing prosecution for sparking a post-election violence last week.
Soldiers shot into protesters shortly before final election results were announced by the Zimbabwe Election Commission.
Six people were killed in that incident with the President, Emmerson Mnangagwa promising to investigate it.
There is still tension in Zimbabwe and Chamisa says there is a demand on him to call for a protest.
“People are calling on me, wanting me to give the signal to go to the streets. But I am worried there will be massive bloodshed,” Chamisa said in the interview.
He said the situation in Zimbabwe “is a more dangerous situation than Iraq.”
Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is accused of being behind the alleged assassination plot.
Chiwenga has dismissed the allegation. He told local media Daily News that the claims are untrue.
