A police officer in Ghana has been caught on video brutalizing a woman and her baby.
The police officer was seen beating the woman and her toddler in a banking hall in the country’s capital Accra.
The video has gone viral on social media attracting anger with many demanding punishment for the police officer.
Brutality without provocation
In the said video, the police officer spent more than one minute abusing the woman and her baby without any provocation.
A man in the video was seen trying to rescue the toddler from the woman to avoid further injuries.
The police officer wielding a gun finally succeeded in throwing out the woman and her baby from the banking hall.
It is not clear what the woman and her baby did to warrant such a brutality. But it was obvious officials at Midland savings and loan where the incident occurred failed to come to the woman’s rescue.
The police officer who has been named as Frederick Amanor Skalla is said to be awaiting prosecution for his action.
Local media reports that the country’s interior minister has ordered an investigation into the incident.

The Midland savings and loan company where the incident occurred has also reacted to the incident.

Policemen should be fighting armed robbers like this not Mothers or women. Worse case scenario should have been handcuffs. He has handcuffs why didn’t he just overpower her and cuff her. That’s what he has been trained to do. Plus the woman was holding a baby. Barbaric.

The Interior Minister has asked the Inspector General of Police to initiate investigations into the conduct of the officer in this video assaulting the woman with a baby.

Past brutalities
Just last month local media Joy FM reported that a young lady was rushed to the hospital after she was allegedly tortured by the police.
The lady suffered severe injuries after being subjected to torture.
The Police in Ghana has on several occasions been accused of brutalities with some leading to deaths.
A Ghanaian journalist who works for local media Multimedia Group was this year beaten up in the line of duty.
The said journalist is reportedly battling for his life. The Ghana Journalists Association recently announced a boycott of events of the police.
