Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian says he feared she might die after child birth. She delivered a baby girl last year but had to endure a life-saving surgery.

The complications were potentially deadly for Williams but her husband was happy she recovered quickly and well.

The founder of Reddit was reacting to the progress Serena has made by getting to the Finals of Wimbledon this year.

The 36-year-old failed to secure an eighth Wimbledon title after losing in straight sets to Angelique Kerber on Saturday.

Ohanian wrote on Instagram that “Days after our baby girl was born, I kissed my wife goodbye before surgery and neither of us knew if she would be coming back.”

“We just wanted her to survive — 10 months later, she’s in the #Wimbledon final.”

“Serena Williams will be holding a trophy again soon. She’s got the greatest one waiting at home for her,” added Ohanian.

“Our family knows she’ll win many more trophies, too. She’s just getting started. And I couldn’t be more proud.”

Serena gave birth to her daughter Olympia in September last year. Serena had to undergo a series of operations to free her from the risk of clotting.
