Dormitories of three high schools in Kenya have been razed down by fire on Monday.

Local media Daily Nation reports that emergency teams responded to fire incidents at three secondary schools in three counties.

The fires in Meru, Homa Bay and Kakamega counties follow a nationwide school unrest in Kenya.

Schools affected include Kathera Boys Secondary School, St Mary’s Girls High School and Kandiege Mixed Secondary School.

Officials say no one was injured in the fire but property of students were destroyed by the fire.

Daily Nation also reports that Last week, another school, Thuura Boys Secondary School in Meru was closed after three fire incidents.

15 students appeared in court charged with arson.

A police official said the Thuura Boys school “experienced three fire incidents but the first two incidents were never reported to us.

Some students have been caught with petrol in the past. There are claims of infighting among board members and some local leaders who are against the principal”.

Police are yet to establish the cause of all these fire outbreaks.

Local media reports that schools are facing strikes and protests over the introduction of measures to deal with cheating in examinations.

The measures are to affect the exams due to start in three months.
