A Kenyan man has been jailed for selling cat meat to unsuspecting customers.

Police saved James Kimani from being lynched by angry mob when he was caught skinning a cat.

He was put before a court for the crime and he pleaded guilty to trading in the meat. He was sentenced to three years in jail.

Why cat meat is an issue in Kenya

Eating of cat meat in Kenya is unacceptable and a taboo.

Kimani confessed to killing more than 1 000 cats, and selling their meat to samosa vendors since 2012.

Daily Nation newspaper reports that Kimani said he made at least $4.95 for every cat he slaughtered.

He told journalists after his arrest on Sunday that his clients were unaware that they were buying cat meat.

Kimani has made more than $50 000 from his trade over the seven year period.

Cat meat is a delicious meal in some countries especially in West Africa.

They are also eaten in China, Vietnam and Korea.
