Workers in the Public sector in South Africa have failed to reach an agreement with the government over a new wage base and have served notice of embarking on strike next week.
Public Servants Association (PSA) on Monday filed the notice which said the strike will take place on June 11, an action that can put immense pressure on the government.
The notice read “Please take note that a 7 day notice is hereby served… for the PSA to commence with strike action.”
Last month a three-year wage deal between the government and public servants was agreed to last month, but not all unions support the deal.
The leader of the PSA, Ivan Fredericks said in a letter to the department of public service and administration that “The PSA, however, remains prepared to resolve the dispute through negotiations to avert the strike action.”
