49 people have been reported to have drowned when the boat they were traveling in tipped over in a river in northern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Over 40 people have also been reported to have survived the accident which occurred late Wednesday, according to local Congolese radio station.
The vice governor of remote Tshuapa province, in northern Congo, Richard Mboyo Iluka, told Radio Top Congo that the boat sunk with all of its passengers.
Officials have not been able to ascertain what caused the accident but boat accidents are common in Congo where traveling on boat on rivers are the only means of transportation in parts of the country.
