Two farmers in Roosfontein, Dewetsdorp, south of Bloemfontein in South Africa have been reportedly killed by two other farmers following an argument over cattle.
News24 reported that police have arrested two farmers accused of assaulting their colleague farmers to death.
Police said that the incident happened on Saturday night, when the deceased allegedly went to collect cattle at a farm partly owned with other farmers.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Mosili Ntsika was quoted as saying that “It is alleged that two fellow farmers suspected that the cattle were being stolen when they witnessed the lorry making the late-night pick-up,” Ntsika said.
There were reports of an argument breaking out between the farmers and soon the incident turned violent.
“Things turned violent when the young man and his accomplice allegedly assaulted the two men with unknown objects,” Ntsika said.
Ntsika added that “Dewetsdorp police arrested the 30-year-old after witnesses alerted them about the incident”.
The two victims died at the scene of the clash from head wounds. Meanwhile the suspects in police custody have appeared in court on Monday.
