The South African Football Association President, Danny Jordaan is facing another allegation of sexual harassment with media reports claiming a compliant has been opened against him.
Sunday Times reported that another woman, an author, aged 40, opened a sexual harassment complaint against Jordaan last week at the Parkview police station in Johannesburg.
The case involves reports of Mr. Jordaan on three occasions in March 2011 sexually harassing the woman. Two of the alleged incidents happened at a Sandton five-star hotel, and another at SAFA House in Nasrec.
But on Sunday Danny Jordaan’s lawyer said in a statement that she was not aware of the latest complaint of sexual harassment against the SAFA president.
Mamadupi Mahlala said “We have received several media enquiries today about an alleged second woman and it is unfortunate that these enquiries are the first time that we have been informed on the subject”.
“The CAS number…which the media has provided to us indicates that a case was opened in March but to date we have not been informed of any details related to this matter,” she added.
Jordaan’s lawyer however said that “This ‘new’ purported case seems to be part of a coordinated smear campaign to [affect] the outcome of the SAFA elective congress.”
“The allegations seem to be an attempt to render Dr Jordaan [ineligible] to stand for the SAFA presidency,” she added.
Last year Danny Jordan was accused by South African singer and former Member of Parliament, Jennifer Ferguson of rape over 20 years ago.
Ferguson in a blog said that that she was raped by Mr. Jordaan nearly 24 years ago in in a hotel in Port Elizabeth city in what she said was a painful experience.
The singer who now lives in Sweden, said she had to speak out after being inspired by a campaign called #MeToo campaign on social media.
Mr Jordaan was in charge of organizing the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He is also a leading member of the ANC.
