Soldiers in Ghana’s northern region on Wednesday attacked police officers in a town of Tamale forcing them to abandon their posts.
The soldiers were angered by an attempt to detain one of their colleagues accused of brutalizing his wife following a court order.
The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of Ghana’s police service had received complaint about a soldier who allegedly abused his wife. The unit was task to arrest and prosecute the said soldier.
Starr FM in Accra reported that the attack on the police officers occurred after a soldier was taken to court and was asked to be remanded after proceedings.

The soldier according to media reports escaped while he was being taken into custody and finding refuge in his colleague soldiers who were undertaking an operation in town.
Some of the soldiers sustained serious injuries during the attack with police officers in the town reportedly demanding to be given access to their armoury to launch a reprisal attack.
Soldiers and police officers in Ghana’s northern region have in the past clashed with the country’s security heads expected to hold urgent meeting to resolve the friction between the two security agencies.
