The President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu is widely reported to have put up a mansion worth $4 million in the tiny Southern African country of Swaziland.
The building was put up on a land donated to him as a gift by the King of Swaziland, King Mswati, according to the Zambia Eye.
The Zambian media outlet, Lusaka Times quoted Zambia’s information minister, Dora Siliya as saying that King Mswati “gave Mr Lungu the land as a gift”.
“These are normal practices when the president travels, that various gifts are given in various forms. In this case it was land that was given to the president. This land was processed and given to the president in title,” Siliya said.
In January this year, Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu came under intense pressure after one of his key ministers, Harry Kalaba resigned claiming the country is on a “path of insatiable greed and shame”.
Harry Kalaba had said in a Facebook post that his decision was because of a high level of corruption “perpetrated by those who are expected to be the solution”.
