The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday travel to London in the UK for a four day medical check-up, according to his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.
The four-day trip to the United Kingdom on medical vacation is to afford the Nigerian President the chance to see doctors to re-examine his health status.
Garba Shehu said on Monday that “In the course of the technical stop-over for aircraft maintenance in London on his way back from Washington last week, the President had a meeting with his doctor. The doctor requested the President to return for a meeting which he agreed to do.”
President Buhari is to return to Nigeria on May 12 after making similar trip on January 19 last year. His return from that trip was however greeted with much anxiety after he over stayed.
The 75 year old has declared his intention to re-run for office next year saying he is “not in politics for fun, frivolity or to amass wealth. I have always been driven by a deep sense of commitment to make a difference in the lives of our people.”
“After my retirement from the army, or forceful retirement, I sat back and watched as events unfolded on the political turf, and realised the country needed an intervention for fairness, justice, and the inclusion of Nigerians in the issues that affect their lives,” President Buhari said.
President Buhari has contested for president in 2003, 2007 and 2011 but only became successful and 2015.
