Monkeys are reported to have invaded some homes in the Nigerian state of Lagos forcing residents to flee.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the invasions happened in the Soluyi/Sosanya Community in Gbagada area.
The Monkeys are said to be entering rooms of locals destroying foodstuff and other valuables. The communities these animals have invaded are close to a major forest.
A resident called Adigun Olaleye told the News Agency of Nigeria that people are finding it difficult to go about their daily activities due to the presence of the Monkeys.
“They said we would have to pay for them to come and pack the monkeys,” Olaleye said referring to responses from local authorities.
Another resident, Funmilola Gboteku is quoted as saying that “Many times, these monkeys come to the neighbourhood to destroy our property. Once they see food items inside a house, they direct all their energies at gaining entrance forcefully.”
“The monkeys are in the habit of tearing the protective nets on windows to gain entrance and eat whatever they find in the house,” Gboteku added.
The Monkey invasion isn’t new according to residents but the intensity of the latest invasion has become a worry for many.
Residents are now appealing to local officials to intervene to bring some relief to them.
