Singapore has executed a Ghanaian national who was convicted of drug related offenses two years ago.
Billy Agbozo’s execution last week was announced by the Central Narcotics Bureau of Singapore.
The 39 years old in 2016 was convicted for importing 1,634.9 grams of methamphetamine, and sentenced to the mandatory death penalty for the offense after his arrest in Singapore.
Agbozo’s plea for Presidential clemency was rejected by the government of Singapore.
In 2016 a 38-year-old Nigerian man was also hanged for drug trafficking after being caught with 2.6kg of cannabis.
Chijioke Stephen Obioha was arrested in 2007 by drugs officers who found 14 blocks of cannabis in a bag he was carrying and another 14 blocks in the flat he was renting.
Under Singapore law, anyone caught with more than 500 grams of cannabis can be sentenced to death.
Amnesty International has condemned Singapore’s law of execution for convicts as it pushes for an end to executions and change its laws.
