The United States of America has deported over eighty Ghanaians for various immigration offences.
Local media The Finder reported that those deported arrived in the capital Accra on Tuesday after abusing the terms of their visas and engaging in illegal employment.
Most of those deported to Ghana were detained for periods ranging between six and 12 months after their arrests.
The deportees were processed by the Ghana Immigration Service and re-integrated into their communities.
The US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson was quoted last year to have revealed that the Trump administration would be deporting over 7,000 Ghanaians who have abused the terms of their visas.
“In fact, about 7,000 of them are currently at different stages of the deportation process. And we are not apologetic about that,” he was quoted by the local media to have said in 2017.
Ghana’s Immigration Service has also revealed that a total of 1,968 Ghanaians who traveled abroad were either deported or refused entry to the country they were traveling to.
The top 10 countries where Ghanaians were deported from include Saudi Arabia, USA, UK, Kuwait, Germany, and Malaysia.
