The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has defended his latest cabinet changes describing it as a “transitional” Cabinet.
The new South African leader on Monday announced changes to his cabinet with some key figures making it into his cabinet weeks after taking over from former President Jacob Zuma.
Pravin Gordhan, the former finance minister under Jacob Zuma returns as public enterprises minister, former AU Commission chairperson, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is the new minister in charge of Planning, monitoring and evaluation at the presidency.
Ramaphosa’s deputy president will now be David Mabuza who is the ANC’s deputy president.
Speaking to eNCA on Tuesday President Ramaphosa said “this is a transitional Cabinet. It is the Cabinet that will take us to the next elections.”
“That’s how people should see it, and it is a very strong Cabinet. It takes into account the strengths we have in government and we have some really good people” the president added.
“I’d like to give them a chance and give them an opportunity. I’m hoping… they will take us forward, so South Africa is moving forward with this Cabinet,” Ramaphosa said as he promises a drastic change to the way the government is run in South Africa.
Meanwhile the opposition EFF in South Africa has described the latest cabinet as a re-alignment of corrupt ministers.

But the South African government is asking for support for the new set of ministers.
