Leaders of the African National Congress in South Africa are reported to be making a final push to get the country’s President Jacob Zuma to resign.
ANC leader, Cyril Ramaphosa and other senior members of the party abandoned a key state event in Cape Town in order to push through an agenda to get Zuma out.
An ANC official in the Western Cape province said the change in schedule relates to the party’s push to force Zuma to stand down.
“We all know and anticipate that they are dealing with the current issue that is facing our country,” Faiez Jacobs, the party’s provincial secretary, told eNCA television.
President Zuma has refused to go insisting in a meeting with ANC leaders that he was still popular and loved by the people.
Zuma came into power in 2009 but has had his tenure characterized by corruption allegations and other scandals.
He has faced several impeachment votes in the country’s national assembly ad is due to face another no-confidence vote later this month.
Ramaphosa had announced he is in talks with his boss to find an amicable solution to the political crisis.
