The former Zimbabwean army chief now Vice President of the Southern African country, Constantino Chiwenga is reported to have shocked lawmakers in the country’s parliament after threatening opposition lawmakers.

Chiwenga had told opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) lawmakers during a parliamentary session that Zimbabwe would have been better off if MDC leaders had not gone to the US and other places “campaigning for sanctions”.

New Zimbabwe.com reported that the vice president of the MDC, Nelson Chamisa problem asked about pensions for war veterans claiming all the countries in the world, except Zimbabwe, took care of their war veterans.

Chamisa further said that the Zimbabwean government seemed reluctant to “restore the legacy” of war veterans.

Vice President Chiwenga in responding to these comments said “I wish that all of you would have the same spirit in this august house and suspend going to America and other areas that you have been to [to ask for sanctions].

When the opposition lawmakers demanded that he withdraws the comments said “Mr Speaker Sir, the matter is withdrawn but an arrow shot is a fly which has gone.”

Chiwenga’s comment was deemed a threat by the opposition MPs with Chamisa saying “The duties of a VP are of a top job. The VP has withdrawn, but he said something else about an arrow.”

Chiwenga later stood up and said: “I am retrieving the arrow” and order was subsequently restored.
