The South African Music legend, Hugh Masekela has been confirmed dead after losing his battle to prostate cancer on Tuesday.

The legendary trumpeter Hugh Masekela who was 78 was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008.

Masekela who was scheduled for some performances in October canceled all shows when his health was deteriorating.

Masekela gained global recognition with his distinctive Afro-Jazz sound and hits such as Soweto Blues.

The 1977 song became synonymous with the anti-apartheid movement.
