Officials in Egypt have confirmed the death of a tourist with 12 others sustaining injuries after a hot air balloon crashed near the city of Luxor.
The tourist, a female South African was on board the balloon with the other tourists from different nationalities from South Africa, Argentina and Spain, and Egypt.
Egypt’s MENA reported that the balloon with 20 tourists on board veered of its course while flying over the west of Luxor due to strong winds forcing it to crash.
The country’s health ministry confirmed the news of the incident with no further details.
Governor of Luxor governor Mahmoud Badr told the AFP that two of those injured were in serious condition.
In 2015, more than 19 people died near Luxor when a hot air balloon caught fire and crashed.
Luxor is an ancient city of Egypt and has been a popular tourist destination because of its archaeological sites.
