The two persons appointed by Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa to become his vice president in the Zanu PF party have been endorsed by the party’s provinces.
Mnangagwa appointed former army chief Constantino Chiwenga and Minister of Defence, State Security and War Veterans Kembo Mohadi as his deputies last week.
These two become vice presidents of Zimbabwe once approved by the Zanu PF party as vice presidents of the party.
Herald newspaper reported that the party provinces said the two “bring vast experience that will benefit both the party and the nation”.
According to Zanu-PF the appointments are in line with its practice of abiding by the 1987 Unity Accord signed between former President Robert Mugabe and late national hero Dr Joshua Nkomo.
The Zanu PF removed Robert Mugabe from the position of president of the party, an action to put pressure on the former president to resign after a military takeover.
Chiwenga led that military takeover to back Mnangagwa who had then been sacked as vice president of the country.
Mnangagwa was then appointed as Zanu PF leader and approved as Mugabe’s replacement in the party and also as the country’s President.
