Liberians are awaiting the outcome of Tuesday’s presidential run-off poll as they look for a replacement for outgoing President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf whose mandate expires next month.
Current Vice-President Joseph Boakai and former football star, George Weah are contesting the run-off which was delayed for weeks due to court challenge to the first round of voting in the presidential election in October.
Mr Weah, 51, won the first round but failed to secure more than 50 percent of votes like all other candidates that took part in the election.
Mr Boakai, 73, is hoping to go a step further to become president after serving as Liberia’s vice-president for 12 years.
Voting has ended across the country in an election over two million people were eligible to vote.
Turn out was low and results are expected later this week.
Soccer Star George Weah is considered the favorite after receiving the backing of other opposition political parties for the run-off as he attempts for the third time to become President.
Liberia was founded by freed US slaves in the 19th Century and would be hoping for a peaceful transfer of power in 73 years.
