There was outrage across Africa a few months ago when news broke of how illegal migrants were being sold in slave markets in Libya.
The accusing fingers have always been pointed at Libyans who are accused of promoting the trade and torturing these illegal migrants seeking greener pasture in Europe.
But some migrants who survived the torturing and horrible ordeal in Libya have told the AFP that Africans are involved in the trade.
Nigeria like many other African countries have managed to secure the release of over 200 of its citizens and repatriated them home as many of them share their stories.
A Nigerian security unit officer fighting against trafficking, Julie Donli said some victims had difficulties giving out information on the crisis.
“Yes, both Nigerians and Libyans are involved in (human) trafficking in Libya,” Julie said when asked about those involved in the trade as shared by the victims.
The African Union (AU) has announced that it has started working together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to evacuate thousands of African migrants held in detention centers in Libya.
The AU said it is hoping to evacuate about 15,000 of these migrants before the end of this month.
