Cyril Ramaphosa who is now the leader of South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has told party supporters he would fight corruption as a major priority.
He has also assured that pursuing a policy of “radical economic transformation” would be key on his agenda as new ANC leader.
Ramaphosa told the closing session of the ANC conference that dealing with the country’s unemployment and poverty situations will also be critical.
“This conference has resolved that corruption must be fought with the same intensity and purpose that we fight poverty, unemployment and inequality,” he said.
Ramaphosa further said that his party “must also act fearlessly against alleged corruption and abuse of office within our ranks.”
The deputy president of South Africa beat ex-wife of President Jacob Zuma to become party leader.
He replaces President Jacob Zuma as party leader and now stands the strongest chance to become president in the 2019 general elections should the ANC win that election.
