Jamila Malafa is from the north of Nigeria but has become the first female to be promoted to the rank of commodore which makes her a top navy chief in Nigeria and its Armed Forces.
The Daily Post reported that the Nigerian Navy on Monday decorated Navy Captain Jamila Malafa with her promoted rank of Commodore.
The new rank is equivalent with army rank of Brigadier General, which makes her the first female of Northern extraction to assume that post.
Commodore Jamila Malafa, born in 1965 joined the Nigerian Navy in 1988 and was commissioned as midshipman in 1990.
A senior navy official told local media that Malafa’s promotion should serve as an inspiration to women in the Armed Forces.
Commodore Malafa herself confirmed that she is the first female of northern extraction to be promoted to the rank of general in the Navy.
She was excited by the new height she has attained saying that it would inspires her to be more loyal and dedicated in her duties.
