A lawmaker in US state of Kentucky Dan Johnson is reported to have committed suicide following reports that he sexually assaulted a woman when she was 17.
The 57-year-old lawmaker who is also a preacher according to Fox news shot himself on a bridge in Mt. Washington, southeast of Louisville.
Fox news reported that the deceased body was washed ashore a riverbank near the bridge with his weapon found at the scene.
Rep. Johnson on Wednesday wrote on Facebook about the sexual assault allegations claiming they were “false” and “only GOD knows the truth.”
The Kentucky Centre for Investigative Reporting had published an account of a woman who claimed that Johnson sexually assaulted her in 2013.
According to the woman she attended a party at Johnson’s home on the night of the incident but fell asleep on a sofa.
When she woke up Johnson was kneeling over her and subsequently assaulted her.
