An Egyptian singer has been jailed by a court in the North African country for appearing in a music video and suggestively eating banana.
Shaimaa Ahmed who was jailed for two years appeared in the said music video in her underwear.
The 25-year-old singer was arrested in November after the said video attracted anger from some Egyptian.
An Egyptian court on Tuesday found her guilty of what it calls “inciting debauchery and publishing an indecent film”.
It’s not only Shaimaa who has been jailed, the director of the controversial video has also been jailed for two years.
Shaimaa Ahmed also called Shyma apologised for the reaction the video received even before her arrest.
She wrote on Facebook that she “didn’t imagine all this would happen and that I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone.”
