Germany and Ghana are hoping to deepen bilateral relations in the next three days as the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier begins a three day visit to Ghana on Monday.
This is the first trip by Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Africa since he assumed office in February this year.
The German President is being accompanied by 17 representatives of German companies realizing Germany’s commitment under the G20 Compact with Africa to bring more German investment to Ghana.
Also accompanying him are the Federal Minister for Economy and Energy, Brigitte Zypries, the Deputy Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Friedrich Kitschelt, the State Minister at the German Foreign Office, Maria Böhmer as well as a substantial business delegation and guests from civil society.
The visit will also focus on youth development in Ghana, scientific and academic cooperation, migration, vocational training and on investment and business promotion.
Ghana is Germany’s third largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, after South Africa and Nigeria.The country’s bilateral trade with Germany grew from €470 million in 2014 to €536 million in 2015.
