The opposition in Togo has vowed to continue with its protests demanding the exit of Faure Gnassingbe as President of the West African nation in order to end the Gnassingbe dynasty.
On Wednesday opposition parties announced their resolve to keep the pressure on the government as thousands staged another street protest.
The opposition and the president are to hold talks towards ending the political crisis.
The leader of the National Alliance for Change (ANC), Jean-Pierre Fabre, told the AFP that “Mobilisation will continue, even during talks. We are not going to give up the fight”.
Fourteen opposition parties want two-term limits for presidents to prevent Gnassingbe from contesting the 2020 and 2025 elections.
Faure Gnassingbe took over from his father Eyadema 12 years ago after he died while in power for 38 years.
He has since won elections in 2005, 2010 and 2015 but got the two-term limit for presidents scrapped a year ago to allow him to further prolong his rule.
