The opposition leader in Kenya, Raila Odinga has angered his supporters many of whom are from the National Super Alliance (Nasa) after he refused to go by a plan to swear him in as the ‘people’s president’.

Daily Nation reported that some Nasa leaders wanted Mr Odinga to take oath of office on Tuesday the day on which Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to be sworn in as President of Kenya.

President Kenya is to assume his second term in office on Tuesday after the Supreme Court ruled legitimising his re-election on October 26.

Mr Odinga turned down plans to take up the ‘people’s president’ tag claiming his international image will be dented and does not want to disrespect the rule of law.

Some of his supporters are accusing him of “cowardice” for refusing to go by the Nasa plan.

“We were ready to have him sworn in as our president. Why chicken out?” said Joel Omondi, a Nasa supporter from Migori town.

The Nasa supporters further said “This has demoralised our resistance agenda. I will now turn my attention away from Nasa activities.”

Another supporters said “I was ready to hear baba has been sworn in no matter what. He is the people’s president.”

Mr. Odinga initially refused to recognise Mr. Kenyatta’s re-election on October 26 describing it as a fraud.
