Zimbabwe’s former vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, the man chosen by the Zanu PF party to become the next president returned to Harare on Wednesday to be sworn in as President.
He fled the country to South Africa after he was sacked by Robert Mugabe who resigned from the position on Tuesday.
Mnangagwa until recently was an ally of Mr. Mugabe but a power struggle between him and wife of his former boss, Grace Mugabe led to his sacking and his decision to subsequently flee the country.
The ruling Zanu PF party passed a resolution to make Mnangagwa its new president after removing Robert Mugabe.
Emmerson Mnanagagwa on Tuesday asked the former President to resign to protect his legacy and refused to return to the country until his personal security is guaranteed.
On Wednesday Mr. Mnangagwa met South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma for talks before traveling to Zimbabwe.
Local media reported that Mnangagwa landed at Manyame airbase where he met army generals for debriefing. He will be addressing his supporters at the Zanu PF headquarters.

There was wild jubilation across the country with many hoping for a new direction for Zimbabwe which has been reeling under economic hardship and poverty.
