Two of Ghana’s leading telecommunication companies, Airtel Ghana and Tigo have announced a new brand name AirtelTigo after completing a merger process.
The merger which started months ago was approved by Ghana’s National Communication Authority (NCA) after several negotiations last month.
Managers of the new merged company have begun moves to consolidate the departments of their companies with staff being informed of new structures and procedures.
New offices of the new company are being repainted and re-branded to signify the transition into one entity.
Although staff of the two firms have been assured of their jobs local media Starr FM is reporting that the new management of AirtelTigo has announced retrenchment packages for staff likely to be laid off.
Staff of the two companies have been asked to reapply for their various positions in the merged entity.
AirtelTigo following this merger would now have 22 percent of market share. MTN remains the biggest telecommunication company in Ghana.
The new CEO of AirtelTigo Roshi Motman said “As you can see, we are now bigger, better and stronger with 22 percent market share. It means that we will play an important part in the industry and serve our customers with quality and better service”.
