Wild life experts in Ghana have warned that Primate Species like Apes, Lemur, and Monkeys are facing extinction in Ghana due to the activities of humans.
They have blamed the current trend on deforestation in forest reserves, destruction of habitants in parts of the country and illegal mining activities.
Starr FM in Ghana reported that officials in Ghana with funding from Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund is implementing a 16 months project on Conservation of endangered Primate Species in three Forest Reserves in Ghana.
This project is contain the rate at which these species are fast disappearing.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has said that globally more than half of the World’s Primates are at risk of extinction.
Ghana’s latest conservation project in the Atewa Range Forest Reserve would help address the situation.
The Project Coordinator for the Ghana project, Dr. Edward Wiafe is reported by Starr FM to have said that it is important for Ghana and the World to save the primate species with the enforcement of Ghana’s Wildlife Laws and Wildlife Reserve Regulations
