Two policemen were stabbed on Wednesday near Tunisia’s parliament house by a militant.
The country’s interior ministry said one of those stabbed has been wounded severely.
A spokesperson for the ministry Yasser Mesbah is quoted as saying that “A Salafist attacked two policemen with a knife. One was struck on the forehead, and the other stabbed in the neck and is in intensive care.”
The attacker has been arrested by security officials with the suspect claiming to have a hatred for security forces who he considered as “tyrants”.
The ministry in its statement said the suspect believes “Killing them (police officers) is a form of jihad.”
Tunisia in recent times has witnessed series of jihadist attacks which have claimed lives of hundreds soldiers and police officers.
There is currently a state of emergency in Tunisia since November 2015.
