Kenyans are voting in a repeat presidential election boycotted by opposition supporters who have been asked by their leader, Raila Odinga to stay away.
Security is tight around many polling centers to prevent clashes as Mr. Odinga urges his supporters to stage street protest over Thursday’s vote.
The Supreme Court of Kenya ordered fresh election after nullifying the August 8 presidential election results.
That election was won by incumbent, Uhuru Kenyatta but the court said the process of transmitting results was flawed.
Mr Kenyatta on Wednesday urged Kenyans to vote in peace saying “Our forefathers fought and died for the right of the African to vote, we dare not reject this inheritance.”
On Wednesday there attempts to stop the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from proceeding with Thursday’s vote but the Supreme Court could not form a quorum to hear the petition.
The African Union and the diplomatic community in Kenya have called for calm and peace to prevent clashes.
