The Youth of Zimbabwe’s ruling party the Zanu-PF are pushing for the continuous stay in power of the country’s president, Robert Mugabe.
The youth wing of party has said that it wants Mr. Mugabe to stay in power until his death, according to News24.
Leading members of the Zanu-PF party have been discussing the possibility of holding a special congress in December to deal with perceived factionalism within the party as call for a successor to President Mugabe heightens.
The chairperson of Zanu-PF’s Youth League, Mubuso Chinguno, is reported as saying that “President Mugabe is our life candidate. We have no problem with him dying in office so we greatly welcome the development to have the December Annual People’s Conference turned into a special congress.”
“There is so much discord in the party and the special congress will address all the problems,” Chinguno said.
Mugabe, led his southern African country to independence in 1980 from British colonial rule and has since been president of the country.
His party selected him as its presidential candidate for the next general election.
