The President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Dramane Ouattara is visiting Ghana on Monday for a state visit weeks after his country lost a maritime dispute between the two countries.
Mr. Ouattara who is a close friend of Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo will hold meetings with his colleague in Accra.
The state visit is the first for the Ivorian President since Ghana’s President assumed office this year.
President Akufo-Addo last month met Ivorian envoys in Accra following the maritime dispute ruling.
Local media reported that he assured the Ivorians that there would be continuous peace between the two West African countries.
The Special Chamber of the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), in September, gave a ruling after three years of maritime dispute between the country and Côte d’Ivoire.
In the ruling the Chamber in a unanimous decision stated that Ghana did not violate any law in drilling oil in its waters along its boundary with Ivory Coast.
Ghana started commercial drilling of oil in 2010 and various companies have explored for other oil fields in the country’s waters.
