The opposition leader in Kenya, Raila Odinga has said that he and his National Super Alliance are now ready for the October 17 election re-run after initially rejecting the new date announced by the Kenyan election commission.
Mr Odinga last week refused to accept the date claiming that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) did not consult him and other stakeholder as stipulated in law.
“There will be no elections on the 17th unless these our demands are met,” Mr Odinga said then demanding an audit of technology used to transmit election results.
But on Sunday during a party rally in Kajiado county, Mr. Odinga said his party is now ready for the presidential poll. He however insisted that the election be managed by a different team.
The election commission said last Tuesday in a statement that new staff will be in charge of the election following a Supreme court order for fresh elections after nullifying the August 8 result which saw incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta winning.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati said “The appointment takes immediate effect.”
The new officials will take charge of the information technology, logistics, operations and training as well as the national tallying centre during the re-run.
Incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have all intensified their campaigns ahead of the re-run poll next month.
