Police in Rwanda on Friday for the second time arrested a women’s activist Diane Shima Rwigara who is a critic of President Paul Kagame.
Rwigara, her mother and sister were also picked up by the police as they face charges for forgery and tax evasion, allegations they have all denied, according to the BBC.
The police said they are still continuing with their investigations into the alleged crimes committed by the three as they defend their action.
The police had already raided and searched Rwigara’s home, taking away a few items and money away.
Rwigara, a 35-year-old accountant, prior to the August presidential election which was won by President Kagame accused him of stifling dissent and holding on to power.
She attempted challenging Mr. Kagame in that presidential election but was disqualified for not meeting the necessary requirement to stand for the vote.
