Eight people have been confirmed dead in Guinea on Tuesday after a rubbish dump collapsed near the country’s capital Conakry.
AFP reported that the collapse happened on the outskirts of the capital after heavy rain, with several others reported injured.
Boubacar Kasse, the police commissioner for Conakry was quoted as saying that “The rubbish fell onto three homes,”
“There are still many people buried, and we have to do everything possible to save them. We have to get diggers in. Access to the area is very difficult.” Kasse said.
The incident took place in Hamdallai, in the district of Ratoma.
Police are making efforts to rescue survivors.
In the past weeks another West African country, Sierra Leone has been dealing with a mudslide and flooding that has killed hundreds of people with many still declared missing.
