Ghanaian fruits and vegetable farmers are feeling the impact of a current ban on the export of their products into European markets.
Many of them are unable to secure good markets for their fruits and vegetables since the ban was imposed in 2016 due to the discovery of fruit flies and other pests in their exported produce.
This year, China also banned the import of fruits and vegetables from Ghana for similar reasons.
The government has so far failed to get the ban reversed but with a delegation from the European Union expected in the country in September, officials are hoping to convince the EU to reverse the ban.
A deputy CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Eric Amoako Twum however told locale media Starr FM that the government is prepared to meet and convince the EU team to reverse the ban.
“There is a nation committee that has been put in place to make sure that we adhere to the strict stringent quality standard that is required in consideration to reverse the ban.”
