Officials in Burkina Faso have confirmed the death of 18 people during an attack on a restaurant in the capital Ouagadougou on Sunday.
Local media reported that three gunmen opened fire on customers who were seated outside the restaurant. 8 other persons sustained injuries in what officials called “terrorist attack”.
Three of the attackers were killed by security forces, according to the country’s communication Minister Remis Dandjinou.
Mr Dandjinou is unable to say how many attackers were involved in the attack.
“They are confined to one part of the building they attacked. Security and elite forces are conducting an operation,” he told local media.
An eyewitness told the BBC that “I heard a lot of shootings and then I was scared as hell and I went inside. I’ve been hearing quite a bit of shooting.”
According to the AFP news agency a government statement said that the nationalities of those killed “are yet to be confirmed.”
Burkina Faso witnessed similar attack on a cafe last year leaving 30 people dead.
