Tanzania’s university education authorities have banned 19 universities in the country from enrolling new students after a report blacklisted them for providing poor quality education.
The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) issued the order to the 19 private institutions including Kenyan universities blacklisted in the 2016 report findings.
“The report has showed several limitations in some colleges, as a result, the Commission has suspended enrolment of the first year students for the year 2017/18,” TCU’s acting executive secretary, Eleuther Mwageni, told the media.
University enrolment starts next week leaving these schools and the thousands of students they admit in limbo.
The universities include Kampala International University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology and Kenyatta University.
There are 71 universities registered in Tanzania.
