Some persons suspected to be militants from terrorist group Boko Haram have killed nine people and abducted dozens more in an attack in southern Niger.
Reuters reported that that the local mayor and a journalist confirmed that the attack took place on Sunday night.
The attackers arrived in the village of Ngalewa on camels at around 9 p.m. (2000 GMT) and abducted some 30 people, the journalist said.
Abba Gata Issa, mayor of the district, said around 40 women and children had been kidnapped.
Boko Haram continues to wreck havoc in Niger Republic after being chased away from its traditional strongholds by the Nigerian Army.
