An official of the United Nations has been expelled from Tanzania by the government. A statement from the foreign ministry confirmed the exit of the head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the country, Awa Dado.
Awa Dabo who is from the Gambian has is reported to be critical of the government of Tanzania with the foreign ministry.
Ms Dabo is reported by local media in Tanzania to have been deported.
The foreign ministry in its statement asked the UNDP staff to prioritize working closely with the Tanzanian government.
Awo Dabo criticized elections held in Zanzibar last year won by the ruling party in Tanzania. The US government withdrew nearly half a billion dollars of funding from the country over the credibility of elections.
The Opposition has condemned the expulsion of Ms Dabo.
