A new survey has shown that Mauritians are the wealthiest people in Africa.
Local media in Mauritius reported that the study contained in the The “Africa Wealth Report 2017” measured the wealth of citizens of countries according to wealth per capita.
Wealth per capita is defined by the report to mean the average wealth of a person living in each country. That does not include the wealth controlled by the government.
The report said “The researchers preferred to use wealth per capita rather than GDP per capita to determine wealth.”
The Namibian newspaper published the report on Monday.
Mauritians lead Africans in terms of wealth with $25,700. Next to them is South Africans who are second an average wealth per person of $11,300.
Data for this study was compiled from 2016. Among the countries studied, Zimbabweans were the least wealthiest.
